How to Treat Acne with Zinc

You have had an acne problem for quite some time, and are not sure how to have it treated. Not only is the acne painful, but it has lowered your self-esteem. You would rather not see a specialist for them, but at the same time want to find something that can really work. Thus, you might consider treating your acne with zinc.

About Treating Acne with Zinc

Sometimes, having acne is the result of not getting enough of your essential vitamins and/or minerals, which is one of the reasons why acne might be treated with zinc. Perhaps you have noticed zinc in various foods that you have, or perhaps you have seen it in various vitamin supplements.

If you are a parent or the caretaker of children, check the diaper rash ointment cream. Chances are that the ointment cream contains zinc. Zinc is a mineral that has soothing properties when it comes to alleviating inflammation of skin, this is another reason why acne is sometimes treated with zinc.

Thus, if you have the kind of acne that is inflammatory, you should look into getting some acne lotion that includes zinc. This lotion might sometimes be included at your local grocery store or convenience store, but the more effective brands are usually available only through prescription.

The first thing that you should do if you are considering treating your acne with zinc is to evaluate your diet. Are you eating foods that have a considerable amount of grease in them? The grease will affect your complexion. The same goes for foods that have a lot of monosodium glutamate.

If you have been eating healthy foods, then perhaps you should consider genetics. As an adult, acne is not as common, and is often a result of things like family history. For example, if your parents have had acne problems as adults, that would explain why you have problems with acne.

Also, acne can be caused by stress. If you have a stressful job, and are always worrying, those worries can materialize on your skin. This is because hormones change and with those changes the oil levels can increase, thus resulting in acne.

If, however, none of these reasons apply to your acne, you should instead consider going to your doctor. Your doctor will be able to assess the situation and prescribe for you acne medication. You are sure to find the right treatment for your acne with the proper research.

What Is Acne And Why Do We Have It?

The question, “what is acne?” may be annoying and serious especially for those people who suffer from it.  We may have the perception of acne as something that we only experience and have during our teen years, but it is a skin disease that people often experience even in their adulthood.  Some people may be too embarrassed to come out and reach out to other people, affecting their self esteem and their relationship with others.  What is acne?  Why do we have it and is it necessary that we must undergo through such embarrassing suffering?

To the question, “what is acne?”, it is generally characterized by our skin having whiteheads, blackheads, and inflamed red pimples or what is popularly known as, zits.

What Is Acne, Commonly?

Probably, the most common form of acne is the “acne vulgaris” and is brought about by changes in the hair follicle and our skin’s sebaceous gland.  They say that the condition is commonly known to occur in teenagers during their puberty stage.  Due to the excessive secretion of oils from our sebaceous glands combined with the dead skin cells or corneocytes, it blocks the hair follicles making it infected.  The oil secretions build up at the blocked pore giving way to a perfect environment for the bacteria Proponibacterium acnes and oil-loving yeast, Malassezia to breed and multiply.  The face, neck, back, and the upper arms are the parts of the body that are greatly susceptible to acne.

Besides the pain and scarring, the effect of acne to an individual is mainly psychological and can lower the self-esteem of a person.

What Is Acne And Why Us?

Usually, when we suffer from acne, the most common question that enters our mind is, “why me?”.  There are many factors and contributing causes as to why we get affected with it.  Though theory also suggests that acne is also partly hereditary, there are many possible causes in our environment that leads us to it.  One is hormonal activity like menstrual cycle or when we are in our puberty stage.  Another may be stress due to the increased output of hormones in our adrenal glands, hyperactive sebaceous glands, or excessive accumulation of dead skin cells.  Bacteria in our pores and other skin irritation that we could experience may lead to acne.

Also, the use of prescription medicine that we may be taking could result to acne like anabolic steroids and any medication that may have halogens, androgens, lithium, and barbiturates.  Contact to high level of chlorine compounds may also contribute to acne particularly dioxins which could cause a long-lasting type of acne which is called, chloracne.

Understanding Types Of Acne Aids In Treatment

While some people seem to suffer from acne more often than others do, everyone at one point in their life has probably been afflicted by the unsightly, often embarrassing signs of various types of acne. It can come in slight forms such as blackheads or whiteheads to the most severe type, cystic acne, which is a cyst near the skin’s surface with the bacteria lodged deep.

In order to prevent or cure acne problems, it is important to be able to recognize the different types of acne as well as what causes each type of form and how what works on one may not work on others and, in some cases, can actually make the situation worse. Typical acne will begin as a small lesion on the skin and develop into a blackhead or whitehead, which can be removed by scrubbing or in persistent situations, by squeezing.

A more inflammatory condition often referred as pimples, results in a raised bump on the skin of varying sizes, and often contains a pus material. The most severe of the different types of acne is cystic acne, which is often confused with a pimple, but the pus contains bacteria that is embedded deep under the skin and are painful to the touch. They do not usually appear on the face, but are common on the beck and back. To prevent aggravating the cyst, light clothing to allow the blemish to heal will help, but attempting to squeeze them usually results in intensifying the pain and pushing the bacteria deeper into the skin.

Acne Does Not Discriminate By Gender Or Age

Of the many types of acne, there is little restriction by age or gender of who will suffer from it and typically, it is associated with the teen years when hormonal changes are rapid and almost constant, acne has been known to return later in life. Sufferers have also been knows to have acne into middle age for no apparent reason.

Many believe certain types of acne are the result of the appearance of normal levels of testosterone, which results in the disappearance of the problem, as the sufferer grows older. In come cases, however the condition persists even as the person matures. Common causes of many types of acne include oily skin, the use of oil-based cosmetics and hormonal changes due to a variety of reasons.

There are many types of acne medications available over-the-counter but without knowing the type of acne that is appearing, finding the right product can be difficult.

Natural acne treatment Is A Simple As Well As Effective

The largest organ of the body that helps other organs in removing waste is the skin, which is often affected by acne for which many people choose to get natural acne treatment in a bid to remove the problem. Diet too plays an important part in removing acne as it helps in doing away with waste so that your skin does not have an outbreak of acne.

The liver removes hormones from the body, and if it fails to do so, there could be excreted excessive oil that can cause acne spots to form. Therefore, you may want to consider diet as being one of the natural acne treatments to use as there are many foods that will help your body, and especially the liver to eliminate waste from the body.

Prevention Is Better Than Cure

Prevention is certainly better than cure, and to protect the skin, there are a number of natural acne treatments to consider including exercising, being careful of the makeup products used, staying hygienic, shaving to exfoliate and remove dry skin as well as not being overly stressed out.

The first natural acne treatment is to exercise and stay in shape that is very helpful in the prevention of acne as it does not cause any physical stress to the body, which when relaxed, gets the skin to react well. A probable cause of acne no doubt is the cosmetics makeup that is often used and which can result in clogging of pores, acne as well as dry skin. Thus, as an natural acne treatment, you must pay special attention to which products you are using and ensure also to only use products that have the “non-comedogenic” label, or which say “oil-free.” Also, you should remove cosmetics by thoroughly scrubbing the areas and not forget this, and ensure that the makeup does not stay on overnight.

A very simple as well as obvious natural acne treatment is no doubt being hygienic. You should care for your personal hygiene and this means washing yourself daily; exfoliating as well as astringents will help you fight acne. By washing sufficiently, you will be able to open the pores as well as eliminate oils and thus prevent acne.

Another simple as well as effective natural acne treatment is to shave. Shaving is wonderful for exfoliation and it removes dry skin and thus helps in preventing acne. It may not actually be a real treatment, but it does help to remove dry skin, opens up and allows air into the affected areas and it also does not allow oils or sweat to collect, and it may even remove your blackheads as well.

Removing stress from your mental makeup is another natural acne treatment because a person with high amount of stress is most prone to acne outbreaks. After all, the skin is only a reflection of your inner being and by using these simple yet effective natural acne treatments they should see you being able to deal with the problem effectively as well as painlessly.

Light Therapy For Acne: How Does It Work?

Acne is a common problem for many people, from teenagers to people in their forties.  Acne is not only embarrassing, but can cause severe scarring.  As more and more research is done, they are finding more productive ways to treat acne.  Light therapy for acne is a promising treatment.  In order to understand how this works, an understanding of what causes acne is needed.

Acne And Its Causes

Acne can occur on the face or sometimes even the body.  Everyone has glands right below the surface of their skin called sebaceous glands.  These glands are responsible for secreting oils onto the skin through the hair follicle tubes found on the skins surface.

These hair follicle tubes can become clogged; as the glands continue to produce oil, the combination results in a pimple.  For some, it can just stop there, for others the problem continues when a bacteria known as Propionibacterium, becomes involved.  This bacteria is commonly found on the skin, but it uses sebaceous to grow.  People with acne have an overabundance of Propionibacterium.

Since bacteria is involved, white blood cells are attracted and cause a breakdown on the skin, which results in the red blotchy inflamed skin associated with acne.

Light Therapy For Acne As An Alternative

Light therapy for acne has shown to be a promising break through.  Light therapy for acne works by using a blue or a red light wave.  The FDA has approved this process for mild to moderate acne.  Light therapy for acne, involves exposing the skin to the light for about 20 to 30 minutes.  Light therapy for acne uses a blue ray to destroy the bacteria Propionibacterium.  The red light used in light therapy for acne, helps with the swelling and inflammation caused by the white blood cells.  Some patients do have some mild pain after using the light therapy for acne.

Light therapy for acne treatments are sometimes offered through a dermatologist center. This process can take monthly treatments as acne is an ongoing problem for many.  There are hand held devices that can be purchased for the home.  A discussion with a doctor regarding these and which would work the best is recommended.

Although approved by the FDA, there have been no long term studies as to any damage caused by light therapy for acne.  For many, the benefits brought about by light therapy for acne are a testament to the success of the process.

Saving Your Face And Money with Home Remedy For Acne Scar Removal

Since we all know that having acne is annoying, what is more annoying is that the scars acne leaves to our skin.  It is a constant reminder to us how much we have suffered the embarrassment and the pain of having to deal with everyday when we had acne.  Worse, acne scars make our skin all the more less appealing and uneven when it comes to skin tone and texture.

It is good to know that there are many home remedy for acne scar removal methods that we could use to get rid of the unsightly remnants pimples have left behind.

PH Balance And Your Skin

Before you head out and go to the nearest mall or drugstore to buy a cosmetic cream that promises to reduce and improve the appearance of your acne scars, it is better to check in your kitchen first.  By making a home remedy for acne scar removal, you could save more time, energy, and money since most of the essential ingredients may be readily available in your home.

Improving the PH balance of your skin is proven to lead to a healthier and glowing skin.  By having an improved PH balance, it could visibly reduce the appearance of acne scars.  A great home remedy for acne scar removal is by using baking soda when you are in the shower to wash your face and other affected areas.  It is an effective exfoliant and baking soda is a natural skin PH balancer.  If baking soda is not available, you may use an apple cider vinegar even though it may cause you to smell bad.  Dilute the apple cider vinegar to a small amount of water and use it before going to bed at night.  Do the routine for three weeks and is also known to be a good PH balancer.  The smell of the vinegar will fade once it dries out after five to ten minutes.

Making A Paste

Another great way to make your own home remedy for acne scar removal is to make a sandalwood paste or cream with black gram or moor dal and mix it with rose water.  You could apply this mixture on to your scars and keep it overnight. Immediately wash it with cold water the following day and if you find that your skin is drier, just leave it for a few hours or try washing your face with some milk.  You may follow the procedure by rubbing ice on your face to tighten the pores and then applying cucumber juice to tighten it more.  Lastly, you may cut some tomato and apply it to the skin, leaving it for ten to fifteen minutes to remove blackheads and make the pores smaller.

This is the simplest and cheapest way to create a home remedy for acne scar removal.  Easy, cheap, and yet super effective.

One Cystic Acne Treatment Will Not Help Everyone

While there are no definite cures or cystic acne treatment that will benefit every person, the best recourse is to learn the causes and eliminate them. By eliminating the causes of cystic acne, the course of any needed treatment will be more direct and more effective. Some over-the-counter products sold for common acne problems will probably have little effect as a cystic acne treatment as they are topical solutions and cystic acne forms deep under the skin, untouched by topical treatments.

A person suffering an outbreak, who has not been using harsh cleansers or topical creams may benefit from beginning cystic acne treatment by washing the area with a light cleaners and applying benzoyl peroxide once or twice a day. They should also wear light clothing to avoid aggravating the spot by rubbing or chafing. If the initial cystic acne treatment fails to produce results, a stronger over-the-counter solution may be tried, but if that fails a trip to the dermatologist may be in order.

In most cases, an outbreak of cystic acne, if kept clean and untouched, will go away one the bacterial infection under the skin has run its course, which can take as long as two weeks. However, attempting to squeeze the pus from this type of acne may make the condition worse, as well as cause more pain to an already uncomfortable situation. Squeezing the bump is not an accepted cystic acne treatment and should be avoided.

Skin Prone To Acne Should Be Well Cared For

While topical treatments may work to some extent, because they are deep in the skin, the results will be limited. Antibiotics are a promising cystic acne treatment and under a doctor’s care, with antibiotic treatment all signs of cystic acne should totally disappear in a few weeks. However, if used too often, the bacteria in the cyst may develop an immunity and stronger measures will need to be undertaken.

Sulphamides are often used as a cystic acne treatment in cases of antibiotic immunity but should be used strictly as directed as they can cause serious side effects. Typically, cystic acne will run its course and disappear on its own, but while it is present it can be unsightly as well as painful to the touch. Squeezing the eruptions will only cause intensified pain and push the bacteria deeper into the skin, making it harder to treat. Additionally, it may also extend the life of the current infected point.

Curing Acne Not A One Step Process

To begin understanding the steps in curing acne, the causes of acne and the different types must first be understood. Acne is considered any type of breakout of the skin ranging from blackheads, whiteheads, pimples and cysts. The cause is usually due to the pores of the skin being blocked by dead skin tissue or sebum, the oil and wax product the body produces to help maintain moisture in the skin.

As sebum is produced, it works its way through the gland that allows hair to travel from the follicle to the surface of the skin. If the sebum is slowed or hardens it can form an effective block in the follicle causing an infection at the point at which the blockage occurred. The first step in curing acne, regardless of the cause, is to prevent the conditions that are favorable for it to form.

By keeping the skin clean and free of dry skin and excess sebum, it will allow a smoother flow to the surface where it can do its job of coating the skin and protect it from drying out. For common form of outbreaks, benzoyl peroxide is considered the best means of curing acne for surface outbreaks. The pimples near the surface will respond to treatment and the root of the pimple can be killed by the treatment, resulting in the skin clearing.

As Conditions Worsen Stronger Methods Are Needed

Cysts, often referred to as cystic acne, are essentially pimples that form under the skin, with the surface pustule being as large as 5 mm in diameter and the root imbedded as deep as to the hair root. Squeezing will not help and usually makes matters worse. A typical method of curing acne generally has little effect of cystic acne as it is a topical solution and unable to penetrate deep enough to have any effect.

There are a few over-the-counter medications for curing acne that contain antibiotics that are necessary to eliminate the cysts. The best of curing acne with cysts is to keep them clean with a light cleaner and light rubbing, but not squeezing. When left alone they will usually disappear in about two weeks. If aggravated they may remain much longer and cause more pain.

When taking precautionary steps are not enough to avoid acne breakouts, using over-the-counter methods of curing acne can be a good first step. However, for more stubborn cases of acne, consulting a dermatologist who can recognize the type of acne being suffered may be needed to find an effective means of curing acne.
