Plans For A Sea Shell Wind Chime Preserve Summer Family Memories

A family vacation to the beach is always a successful event guaranteed to provide many valuable and treasured family memories.  The blue skies, sandy shores, tall beach grasses and the cold ocean provide the perfect forum for fun in the sun.  Add to the mix the colorful array of sea shells that can be found along the shore and soon you have more souvenirs that you can carry back to the hotel.

As you survey the collection of colorful sea shells, a question most parents might ask is “what do I do with these shells now?”  Don’t despair, creating a plan for a sea shells wind chime is an excellent way to preserve the family memories, build something fun with your children and extend the family memories to include a crafting activity that involved the whole family.

Wind Chime Plans Recycle Family Household Items

Wind chime plans do not have to be formal or even drawn out.  It is actually can be a very simple process using a few things that you find around the house and the sea shells that your family gathered at the beach.

As you begin to plan for your wind chime, you will need to look around your house for supplies.  A plastic coffee can lid can provide the top portion of the wind chime, planning that this will be the top base upon which the sea shells will be attached.  I personally prefer a black coffee can lid but any color can do for the job.

As you organize your wind chime supply plans, don’t forget to gather colorful ribbons or yarn to use when hanging your shells.  Attaching the shells can be a bit more complicated and can be done in one of two ways.  The first is to glue each shell to a colorful ribbon, piece of yard or fishing line.  If you choose to use this plan, it is important that you allow enough time for the shell to dry to the ribbon or yarn; waiting a twenty-four hour period should be fine.  Another way to attach the shells is to use a small art drill and drill a tiny hole in the top of each shell.  This is a very sensitive method and any drilling should be done by an adult for safety sake.

A Wind Chime Plan For Sea Shells Has Family Memories Blowing In The Wind

One your shells have been attached to one end of the ribbon or string, you will tie each ribbon to the coffee can lid, it will be necessary to punch or drill small holes in the lid to push the yard or ribbon through.  Once each ribbon is pulled through, tie a knot in the end to insure that the ribbon does not pull back through once it is hung up.

When all the sea shells have been attached to the coffee can lid, you can punch two more holes through the lid and tie a long ribbon from one side to the other.  This is the ribbon by which you will hang your newly created sea shell wind chime.
