Suave is a brand name based in Chicago, IL used by the Unilever company in the United States, Mexico and Canada. Targeting discount stores, the brand represents more than 100 products including shampoo, lotions, soaps and deodorant.

Suave started in the United States in 1937 as a hair tonic. The brand eventually was acquired by Unilever which, in the 1970s, started expanding the Suave name beyond hair care into other areas.

Noting the rise of discount stores such as Wal-Mart, in the 1990s Unilever instituted a broad strategy, called “The Power of Value” to leverage its Suave brand to sell a complete line of discount personal care products in contrast to its high-profile brands such as Helene Curtis, Calvin Klein and Salon Selectives lines. Sales of the Suave line of products grew from $500 million in 1995 to about $900 million in 2002.

Hot Pockets, which come frozen, are often known for being packaged with a crisping sleeve. The material within sleeve converts microwave energy into heat in order to crisp the crust, which is usually penetrated by microwaves. The sleeves, branded “Qwik Crisp” (like most crisping papers) and now under pen name “Crisp & Carry!”, are common in most Hot Pockets varieties. Recent Hot Pockets Subs brands have refrained from using such crispers, as some sandwiches are said to be soft-baked. On the back they say Crisp and Crunch.

Hot Pockets came under fire recently for using cheese that contained meat. The courts found in favor of the food maker citing that “Hot Pockets does not claim to offer a vegetarian solution, and as such including meat in the spinach and cheese pocket is perfectly legal.”

Recently, Hot Pockets began introducing whole grain crusts, following a trend of many convenience product purveyors offering lower carbohydrate choices.

Makes:6 servings

1	cup Fiber One® original bran cereal
1	cup Old El Paso® Thick ‘n Chunky salsa
2	eggs
1	teaspoon chili powder
1/2	teaspoon ground cumin
1/4	teaspoon salt
1/8	teaspoon pepper
1 1/2	lb extra lean (at least 90%) ground beef
1/2	cup Old El Paso® Thick ‘n Chunky salsa

1.	Heat oven to 350°F. Place cereal in resealable food-storage plastic bag; seal bag and finely crush with rolling pin or meat mallet (or finely crush in food processor).
2.	In large bowl, stir together cereal and 1 cup salsa (mixture will be thick). Let stand 5 minutes.
3.	Add eggs, chili powder, cumin, salt and pepper to cereal mixture; stir until blended. Add ground beef; stir until well mixed. Press evenly in ungreased 9×5-inch glass loaf dish.
4.	Bake uncovered 1 hour 5 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes or until meat thermometer inserted in center of loaf reads 160°F. Cover; let stand 5 to 10 minutes. Drain and discard liquid before slicing. Serve with 1/2 cup salsa.

Revlon was founded in the midst of the Great Depression, 1932, by Charles Revson and his brother Joseph, along with a chemist, Charles Lachman, who contributed the “L” in the REVLON name.

Starting with a single product — a new type of nail enamel — the three founders pooled their resources and developed a unique manufacturing process. Using pigments instead of dyes, Revlon developed a variety of new shades of opaque nail enamel. What is an omega-3?

Omega-3s are fatty acids, which have been studied for their role in health and well-being. ALA is an essential omega-3 fatty acid, meaning that it must be included in the diet for optimal health. Common sources of ALA include soybeans, flaxseed and walnuts. DHA is another type of omega-3 nutrient and has been studied for its role in heart, brain and eye health. Silk Plus Omega-3 DHA contains both naturally occurring ALA and added DHA from a natural vegetarian source.

What is DHA?

Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is an omega-3 fatty acid. Although it is found in most tissues of the body, the highest concentrations of DHA are prevalent in the brain, nervous system and the retina of the eye. The more DHA is consumed in the diet, the more DHA is available for these tissues.

Why is DHA important?

Although DHA is present in most tissues within the body, DHA accumulates at greatest concentrations within the brain, nervous system and retinal tissue of the eye. Therefore, it is recognized to play a role in supporting normal development in these areas. DHA has also been shown to help promote heart health.

What is the recommended dietary amount for DHA?

A recent report from the Institute of Medicine (National Institutes of Health, 2005) has suggested that a healthy diet include 1,600 mg of ALA omega-3. Of that amount, they suggest that Americans consume 10% of their omega-3s in the form of DHA and EPA (a similar fatty acid). Silk Plus Omega-3 DHA contains 370 mg of ALA and 32 mg of DHA per serving.

What are other sources of DHA?

DHA naturally occurs in fish, particular fatty fish. Salmon, herring, albacore and bluefin tuna, and whitefish are all good sources of DHA. The DHA used in our Silk Plus Omega-3 DHA is a vegetarian source derived from algae.

Do Silk products contain fiber?

Whole soy foods provide fiber and Silk is made from high-quality, non-GMO whole soybeans. Silk Plus Fiber has fiber added to provide a total of 5 grams of dietary fiber per 8-ounce serving.

What is the importance of dietary fiber?

Fiber has also been shown to help promote healthy digestive function. Also, meals that include soluble fiber tend to slow down digestion, thereby delaying the absorption of glucose, a blood sugar. This can be helpful in normalizing blood sugar levels. Soluble fibers can also help to promote a feeling of “fullness,” resulting in reduced calorie intake — a big plus if you’re trying to lose weight. In addition, the presence of fiber in the diet may help promote healthy cholesterol levels.

What is the daily recommended intake for fiber?

The recommended amount of dietary fiber for a 2,000-calorie diet is 25 grams per day. Unfortunately, most Americans only consume about half of that amount. Silk Plus Fiber contains 5 grams of fiber per serving.

What are other sources of dietary fiber?

Other sources of dietary fiber include fruits and vegetables, whole grains, dried fruits, oats, beans, peas and legumes, including soy.
