What are the Methods Used to Prevent Asthma?

Understanding the causes of asthma can help prevent asthma.  Asthma is an illness that causes the body to react to specific substances.  Asthma attacks such are evident through its symptoms such as wheezing, coughing, tightening of the chest, and shortness of breath.  Causes of asthma are varied from person to person.  Each person has  different trigger.  But there are the most common allergens such as dust, pollens, pollutants, strong odor and even certain weather conditions.  There is no definite and long term cure for asthma, but there are a lot of ways to prevent asthma.

HEPA or high efficiency particulate air filters or HEPA filters are used to prevent asthma.  This filter can remove micro sized allergens such as pet dander and pollen.  If the asthma is critical, try removing carpets as the dust and pet danders stick to them.  Allergens build up in carpets even after vacuuming.  Wear protective mask while cleaning the house.  Dust and the odor of cleaning solutions can bring about asthma attacks.

Trying to avoid allergens from outside is hard to do.  But there are ways to minimize your contact with allergens and other irritants.  Limit outside activity, if you do go out, wear a protective mask.  Don’t be embarrassed for wearing one since it is understandable in this time of age.  The mask not only prevents allergens, but also help prevent cold air from coming into your lungs which can cause asthmatic attacks.

Prescription medications are also used to prevent asthma.  One of the most recommended anti-inflammatory medications are corticosteroids.  Usually it is in oral inhaler form.  This medication can decrease the inflammation of the airways over time. Another prescribed medication is leukotriene blocker, this preventive medication have the capability of producing inflammation can halt the ability of cells from signaling one another to flareup.  They do the job well, but they are not to be treated as immediate relievers.

Treating Allergies and Asthma Naturally

Allergies and asthma is something you deal with everyday for those who have them.  There are even allergies and asthma commencing from the day of a child’s birth.

Many people are aware what causes their allergies and asthma.  Also they are very aware of its symptoms such as a wheeze and/or accompanied by a cough with varying degrees of difficult breathing.  Children’s symptoms are far different from most symptoms like the adults.  Tiredness is another symptom of allergies and asthma.  This is caused by reduced oxygen levels and the extra effort needed in breathing.

Allergies and asthma happen when a part of our immune system is not working in sync.  The immune system protects our health.  Allergies and asthma occur when the immune system thinks that something that is normally harmless is a threat and since it was designed to protect you from that “threat”, creates a very strong inflammatory response.  The response produces an allergic and asthmatic response.

So how are allergies and asthma treated?  Treating allergies and asthma is not a simple treat-it-and-forget-it solution and all the while ignoring the real problem.  What you need to do is find out how your body is triggering a response and how to prevent this from happening.  Many think that allergies and asthma is all from the lungs.  A person’s body condition is what causes allergies and asthma.

Allergies and asthma can be prevented through natural remedies.  Prevention is still better than cure.  It certainly is.  The immune system should be bolstered.  This is a better allergies and asthma prevention.  Having a strong and healthy gastrointestinal system promotes good gut bacteria, as well as a healthy bowel lining that will help prevent allergic and asthmatic triggers.  A natural means of preventing allergies and asthma is to detoxify and repair your bowels and clean your blood.

You have to find out immediately if the victim has a reliever medication.  If he/she does and is still conscious, find the reliever and then have the person administer it him/her self so that he/she would know the amount of puffs to take in.  Make sure that the victim is sitting down in a position that would not aggravate breathing during an asthma attack.  Never have them lie down.  Also loosen the victim’s clothes.

Asthma Remedies You Need to Know

There are a lot of asthma remedies available, but the best asthma remedies is by identifying the root cause and preventing yourself or someone you know from being in contact with that cause for asthma.  This is because asthma can var from person to person.  What may be a trigger for asthma for a certain person may not be the same for the other.  The severity of asthma also differs from person to person.  Some of the most common triggers for asthma are dust, pollens, and strong scent from chemicals, even weather conditions can be an asthma trigger.  Asthma does not have a surefire cure, but there are asthma remedies you can take to lessen asthma attacks.

Use high efficiency particulate air filters or HEPA.  It is used on air purifiers.  This can get rid of micro allergens such as dust and pollen.  If the asthma is critical, be sure to remove the carpets since dust tend to stick to it.  If you are the asthmatic, war a protective mask to cover your nose and mouth while cleaning.

Outdoor allergens are almost impossible to prevent.  But there are asthma remedies that you can do to at the very least limit your exposure from the allergens and irritants.  Protective masks should be worn whenever you are out.  If possible, limit outdoor activities.  But if you do go outside a lot, never forget the protective mask.  It is not only allergens and dust that is prevented from getting through, but also cold air.

Prescription medications are other methods of asthma remedies.  The most common asthma remedy in the form of medication is the corticosteroids.  It is given in the form of an oral inhaler.  This helps in preventing flareups.  Another medication prescribed is the leukotriene blocker.  This one has the ability to halt the signaling of cells to one another to flareup.  Asthma remedies are used for prevention but not as cure.

Asthma Management-is it Possible

Asthma is a lifelong condition.  Asthma does not choose from age and gender.  Since there is no permanent cure for it, what you can do is asthma management instead.  If a person is diagnosed with asthma, all that you can do is accept it and learn to live with it.  This is where asthma management comes in.

Asthma management starts at home.  Clean your home thoroughly and make sure that every corner is dust free and bacteria free.  Dust off and clean the house daily.  Wear a protective mask when dusting off.  This keeps allergens from getting into your airways through the nose and the mouth.

Another asthma management method is to identify the two different types of inhalers used for asthma.  One inhaler is fine, but two inhalers may be necessary.  One type of inhaler is used to prevent asthmatic attacks and this is taken in regular intervals.  The other type of inhaler is used to relieve in case of an occurring asthma attack.  Getting to know both will greatly leverage your asthma management.

Physical activities is not a restriction when you have asthma.  You just have to be mindful of getting too much engaged.  Ask your doctor what sports is okay for you to engage in.  Don’t let asthma stop you from being physically active even at least with exercise.  Asthma management also requires physical activity to strengthen the immune system.

Understanding asthma helps you get out more from the condition.  That is why, with good asthma management, you can still lead an active lifestyle.
